Digitisation, Data and Contingency: Are You Genuinely Prepared for the New Economy?

Everyone is looking to go digital, and looking to develop a data-based corporate strategy, but one area in which many are lacking is that they haven’t applied it yet to their People strategy.

From a detailed investigation involving 350 leading organisations, 50% are fully embarked on a Digital Transformation strategy, but nearly all are struggling to recruit and retain Digital talent. Often, they don’t know what talent is needed, or for which roles or skills gaps they need to recruit.

By not analysing the capability of existing staff in the light of a Digital framework, many are missing the opportunity to make the workforce connections, and to know where to upskill, where to redeploy, and - critically - where are the roles that need to be hired simply due to urgency.

Jim has co-created a workforce planning framework for the CIPD, a holistic model that avoids the problem suffered by traditional models of being too conceptual, inwardly-focussed, and rigid.

The reality now is that a model built out for 5, 10 or 20 years simply cannot react to changing and unpredictable situations (Brexit, slowing global growth, geopolitical upheaval). What’s needed is a model that is adaptive and networked.

Contingent workers as well as AI and robotics all need to form part of this planning model, and it needs to be constantly evolving in order to know what talent you need, before you need it, and to capture and retain it in an environment where major players are constantly outpaced and out-manoeuvred by more agile competitors.

Jim will present some invaluable advice for HR, planning, transformation and business strategy professionals and leaders, drawing on knowledge gained throughout his extensive career in top-level consulting on a global scale.
